Belachew Mekuria received an LLB from Addis Ababa University in 2001. He also has an MSc degree from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden on Land Management in 2004 and an LLM degree with distinction from University of Essex in International Human Rights law in 2007. Belachew worked at Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia as Head of Department, Faculty Dean and initiated projects on human rights in the Faculty of law. He has worked as an assistant judge at the Amhara National Regional State Supreme Court, programme officer for Action Professionals’ Association for the People on a legal empowerment program. Before coming to King’s, Belachew was a lecturer at Addis Ababa University, Institute of Human Rights as lecturer on the MA program in Human Rights where he taught a module on human rights and development.
As part of the fellowship program, Belachew is currently studying on the MA in Conflict, Security and Development at King’s College London.
