Birikit specialised in rural development at the Indira Ghandi University (IGNOU) and has participated in different long term international training programmes. She has worked at community level with destitute women and also addressed advocacy issues with higher officials both nationally and internationally. Birikit graduated with a BA in Agriculture and Rural Development (Alemaya University) and a MA in Social Work (Addis Ababa University).
