Gladwell Otieno, Vice Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the African Leadership Centre, is the founder and Executive Director of the Africa Centre for Open Governance (AfriCOG), an anti-corruption civil society organisation based in Kenya. AfriCOG also convenes the influential network, Kenyans for Peace with Truth and Justice, that advocates for and monitors progress on the implementation of the 2008 post–election crisis agreement. Ms. Otieno was the Executive Director of Transparency International –Kenya, and has also worked for Transparency International in Berlin, Germany. At the Institute for Security Studies in South Africa, Ms. Otieno led the African Security Analysis Programme.
She has advised organisations such as the African Parliamentarians Network against Corruption, the Sierra Leonean, Zambian and Malawian anti-corruption commissions and the OECD. In Zimbabwe, Ms. Otieno conducted a baseline study on anti-corruption, advising the World Bank, donors and the Office of the Prime Minister on anti-corruption policies in a fragile environment. She worked for the United Nations Institute for Training and Research with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan. She recently became the Vice Chair of the United Nations Convention against Corruption Coalition Coordination Committee, working for the implementation of the UNCAC and is on the Board of the Partnership for Transparency Fund. She is sits on the international steering committee of the Open Government Partnership and recently joined the Board of the Mathare Youth Sports Association. Ms. Otieno studied Political Science and French at the University of Massachusetts, Boston and the Free University of Berlin.
