Africa Week 2026 Announcement

The African Leadership Centre is pleased to announce King’s Africa Week 2026, happening from 2 - 6 March 2026.

King’s Africa Week showcases recent cutting-edge research, educational programmes, and engagement activities on Africa. It is convened by the African Leadership Centre and Africa Research Group,  Department of War Studies.  Africa Week brings together academics, researchers, and students from across King's and offers the opportunity to hear from African scholars, leaders, and thinkers.

This year’s theme is, “Resourcing African Agency: Priorities, Innovation and Preparedness in a Multipolar World”.

Since 2022, Africa Week conversations have interrogated the concept of African agency in a multipolar world and how the continent navigates its position in the global political-economic system. This discourse has been valuable in convening intergenerational exchanges, including the ALC’s flagship African Public Square (APS) debates, on this vital subject. These deliberations offer a basis upon which to move beyond the “why” and “what” of agency to the “how”.

Against this background, Africa Week 2026 asks, what resources—material, human, institutional and ideational—are necessary for actualising agency?

The theme also responds to:

·      The imperative to mobilise resources beyond dependency, leveraging domestic capital and strategic partnerships.

·      The need for institutional and intellectual preparedness to lead in a multipolar world.

·      The urgency of collective action to navigate intra-African tensions, global negotiations, and technological sovereignty

Events for this year's Africa Week will be held both in person and online.
